PROS AND CONS OF SATELLITE TELEVISION

Since the offering to the public for satellite television has been made, the way in which viewing is done is completely different. While standard television was okay and cable good, satellite is considered revolutionary. Keep in mind that as with any technology, there are pros and cons, which is the same for satellite television. In this article, we wanted to provide you with an overview on some of the positive and negative aspects associated with satellite.

As you may already know, satellite television is a massive object that orbits above the earth’s surface. Keep in mind that while satellites are launched into space for television, many more are orbiting the earth for a variety of reasons such as weather, spying, science, navigation, and so on. Remember, satellites are unmanned. Without an actual person being on the satellite, everything to control it is down on earth. Comprised of various systems and electronics, satellites are powerful transmitters and stations that send signals back to the earth.

One of the issues relating to satellite television that some see as a negative is that literally, thousands of people every day purchase the technology to enjoy better television viewing. Back in the early days, signals for television were transmitted through a system known as “Direct Broadcasting by Satellite”, or DBS. Since DBS needed to provide vast coverage, they were exceptionally powerful. In addition, the person on the receiving end needed a dish, along with a television set that had a decoder attached.

Because you need a direct line of sight to the satellite to enjoy the benefits of this technology, it is not deemed a good consideration for everyone. After all, depending on the topography of your home or business, you could have problems receiving these powerful signals due to trees, buildings, fences, and so on, meaning that people in cities, especially big cities such as New York, may not be able to use satellite television. Then, to receive the signal, a dish must be mounted to the outside of your home or business. Again, if you rent an apartment, you may find the leasing company does not allow a dish, therefore, you would not be able to use satellite television. Additionally, during rainstorms, reception of the satellite signal can be distorted, blocking out some or all channels.

The upside to satellite television is actually a longer list than the pros. Probably the benefit most appreciated is the vast number of channels. Literally, with satellite television, you can watch anything imaginable. Whether looking for movies, sports, concerts, shopping, you name it and you will find it with satellite television. Then, satellite is available anywhere, even in remote areas. For individuals living in small towns or out in the country, they often miss out because cable television is not offered. However, because the satellites orbit the earth, covering every location, anyone can enjoy the benefits.

Additionally, you will love the various service options, which are far better than other television offerings. For instance, you could use your satellite dish interactive television for other things to include broadband internet service and even a landline phone. Finally, the signal provided through satellite television is perfect. As long as you are in a straight line to the satellite position, the reception will be crisp and clear. The only time you may experience some disruption of service is again, during rainstorms.
