A GUIDE TO HOME THEATERIf you were thinking about creating a home theater – be sure you will quickly become one of the most popular neighbors on the block. While some people go all out, installing leather theater chairs, putting in a massive big screen, displaying theater sconces on the walls and stair lighting, keep in mind that a “home theater” is more the concept of creating a personal theater. In other words, you could do something over the top but the other option is to choose quality equipment so you and friends can sit back and enjoy exceptional images and sound. Typically, a home theater is about the television, but also music. In the past 20 years, the possibilities for creating a home theater have advanced significantly. For instance, years ago, this type of room would have been so expensive that is was unfeasible. Installing a “big screen” television would have cost thousands of dollars, not to mention all of the other equipment and furniture needed. Today, we have watched as the cost of electronics have diminished, making the possibility for a home theater a reality. In addition to price, we see more and more people coming up with a home theater design as quality for video has improved. Just recently, a new television technology known as “High Definition Television” or HDTV is making waves. The result of this new technology is a crisp image like no other set can offer. However, when buying a high-definition television, remember that sound is just as critical as the image itself. Therefore, you want to choose a system that offers quality in both video and audio. To set up a home theater, you would need to make sure the ambience or effect of the room is similar to that of a real theater. For this, you would need soft lighting, which again, many people will choose dimming wall sconces. You also need to consider the number of people you would typically accommodate. If you love to entertain friends, then obviously ample and comfortable seating would be essential, which is where theater chairs work well. On the other hand, if you usually spend time with a loved one, kids, or a few close friends, then overstuffed couches and chairs would be fine. As you shop around for a new television to put in your home theater, we strongly recommend you go with a 32-inch or larger set. Of course, the overall size of the room would help you determine the size of television. If you need a smaller set, just choose a high-definition 32-inch but if money and room affords, you could go all out with an 80-inch screen. In fact, another option to consider is a DLP projector. In this case, you would be projecting the moving onto a permanent or pull-down screen, or a white wall. Finally, pay close attention to sound, as mentioned. One option is to have speakers installed along the wall, which produces a clear and well-balanced sound. However, you could also choose a few quality speakers to place at the front and back of the room. While these options work well, probably the best solution is surround sound, which gives you the feel of sitting at your local theater.
