ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CRT TELEVISIONS

CRT is the acronym of “Cathode Ray Tube”, which is the most common and oldest television technology. In early years, CRT televisions were all we had but over time, the technology has evolved. Although we see many people turning to even newer technology, the majority of televisions sets still sold today are CRT. Therefore, we wanted to address some of the advantages and disadvantages to help make your shopping easier.

Advantages

For one thing, a CRT television is affordable, which is why it is the most common choice. Interestingly, with new digital technology, you will find some CRT televisions higher priced but the majority fit nicely into anyone’s budget. You will also find that a CRT television has excellent image quality, very hard to beat other than the new high-definition sets.

Other advantages include outstanding detailing, sharpness, and contrast ratio, for both digital and analog formats. If you love playing games on your television, the CRT is one of the best choices since it is capable of processing detail so well. Finally, this particular type of television lasts and lasts. In fact, some people have sets 30 years old and still going strong!

Disadvantages

Of course, along with positive aspects of the CRT television, a few disadvantages should be considered. The tubes are very heavy, which means the television is not very portable. For instance, some televisions are more like furniture, meant to be placed in one spot and then not moved. When compared to a plasma television, the CRT option is about 50% heavier.

Another downfall to the CRT television is screen size. When looking at newer televisions on the market today, you can get just about any size screen you want but in this case, 36 inches is about as big as it gets. The problem with this is that flat screen and rear projection televisions are growing in popularity, especially due to dropping prices.

If you need a good, reliable television set, one that is great for movies and games, but also one that will not cost you a fortune, there is certainly nothing wrong with choosing a CRT tube television. They last, look great, and do their job well. While some disadvantages are connected to the CRT television, they are minimal. Sure, newer technology is available but that does not mean it is always the right choice. The key is to weigh all the options and then determine if a CRT television is best for your lifestyle.
